PORTRAYAL OF A MALE LEAD

Jack McLaughlin as Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame at The Muni

Sometimes an actor doesn't just play a role, they disappear into it, creating a performance that redefines a classic. Such is the case with this year's leading male role winner, Jack McLaughlin, who's masterful, heart-wrenching portrayal of Quasimodo is, without a doubt, one of the greatest achievements in Springfield community theater.

McLaughlin has been acting since he was a young child, first debuting on The Muni stage in the children's ensemble of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat in 2011.

"Pillars of this community have molded me into the person I am today – inspiring me to give my all to any role I take," said McLaughlin. However, it is this paramount performance of Quasimodo that gave him his first lead on the Muni stage. He not only embodied the intense physicality of the role but also brought forth Quasimodo's humble naiveté, loneliness and yearning. That commitment, combined with McLaughlin's breathtaking and powerful vocals, led IT readers to recognize him as truly deserving of this honor.

McLaughlin attributes his success to the inspiring arts community as a whole, his family and the supportive staff of Hunchback. "Quasimodo reminded me what it is to be human, and having the honor of performing with some of my best friends is one experience I'll never forget," said McLaughlin.
