Hate it or love it – everybody knows Grease. Audiences are most familiar with the 1978 film starring John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and the unequivocal Stockard Channing as Rizzo.
Rizzo is rebellious and brazen, a perfect foil for the uptight Sandy. She owns her sexuality and is one of the only main characters who doesn't go through an identity crisis. Rizzo sings two of the most memorable numbers of the show; "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee," and "There are Worse Things I Could Do," songs meant to juxtaposition the societal shaming of women for either being prudes or too sexual. Tuttle's rendition for both was emotionally wrenching, character-driven and delivered with a stunning power that solidifies her performance as the best vocal achievement of the season for our IT readers.
Her castmates for Grease all described her as "perfect" for the role, and only occasionally with a twinge of jealousy. With the stage presence of a new Broadway ingénue and the vocal prowess of someone twice her age, Tuttle always delivers a standout showing. She has shone on many of Springfield's stages, recently performing as Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Hoogland Center for the Arts and Lorraine in Jersey Boys at The Muni. Tuttle is also a student at University of Illinois Springfield and attributes her success to the everlasting support from her family and friends.
