Join Dr. Beck for a presentation and book signing. American Indians and other Indigenous peoples were employed in a broad variety of ways as part of the 1893 world’s fair. Dr. Beck will discuss his groundbreaking research on the subject with a focus on the types of work that Indigenous people did as well as the ways in which they were, or were not, compensated, and what this meant in turn of the century America.
David Beck, a history professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is not Indigenous. He has worked for more than 30 years with Tribal communities.
