Illinois State Poetry Out Loud Contest

When: Mon., March 2, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 2026

Student poets from across Illinois will compete to advance to national finals in Washington, D.C. Competing from central Illinois will be Jillian Garcia of Eisenhower High School in Decatur and Ace O’Malley of Springfield Southeast High School. Garcia took first and O'Malley second in the regional contest. State event will include special guest Mark Turcotte, Illinois poet laureate. Winner will receive $200 and an all-expense-paid trip.
