Set in 1927, Captain Billy Buck Chandler is a barnstorming pilot who wants to be the first to fly across the Atlantic. He’s sidetracked when he falls for swimming sensation Edythe Herbert. With Billy’s salty female mechanic and Edythe’s villainous Russian manager throwing wrenches into the romantic machinery, a Harlem “fairy godfather” provides the magical touch that assures everyone lives happily ever after. A tap-dancing sensation on Broadway in 1983, the show was nominated for 9 Tony Awards, including “Best Musical.”
