Sangamon River Poets

Experience the voices of Illinois’ greatest poets brought to life on stage. The Sangamon River Poets: Masters, Lindsay, and Sandburg, a play by Dennis Camp, returns to the stage 44 years after its world premiere at the Sangamon Auditorium. This dramatic performance features interpretations of the works of Vachel Lindsay, Edgar Lee Masters and Carl Sandburg, celebrating the Illinois prairie and Sangamon River Valley through poetry, prose and music. The 2025 cast includes Rich McCoy, Tom Lawton and original cast members Leigh Steiner and Kevin Purcell. The performance is accompanied by original and traditional music from Wild Columbine.
