A total solar eclipse will be visible from southern Illinois on Monday, April 8. While the eclipse will still be visible from the Springfield area, it will not quite be total. Lincoln Land Community College is providing an opportunity for those not making the journey to southern Illinois to still experience the total solar eclipse through the college’s Facebook page and activities on the LLCC-Springfield campus during the Solar Eclipse Watch Party.
Enjoy trivia, music and outer space-themed snacks while waiting for the solar eclipse to begin. Activities will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. Community organizations will also have exhibits and activities available. The solar eclipse stages will be viewable around 2-2:30 p.m. Approved solar eclipse viewing glasses will be provided to all participants. Samantha Reif, professor of geology at LLCC, will be providing a livestream video of the eclipse from Du Quoin, IL. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.LLCC’s Facebook page can be found at facebook.com/LincolnLandCommunityCollege.
