Sustainable Gardening Series: Compost

Part of Lincoln Library's summer reading program.

This session will provide an overview of common composting methods and the history behind composting practices. Drawing on examples from permaculture, participants will learn about small-scale composting techniques suitable for home and urban gardening. Special attention will be given to safe composting practices and recent research related to environmental impacts. The lecture will also introduce bokashi composting and the use of effective microbes, both of which offer efficient and safe composting options for small spaces.

The session's presenter, Nicholas Martsch, holds a degree in food science and human nutrition from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has experience in plant cultivation, microbiology and sustainable growing practices through his work with Cresco Labs and Archer Daniels Midland. His lecture series focuses on empowering young adults and teens with practical, sustainable gardening skills that promote self-sufficiency, environmental awareness, and healthy living. No registration required.
