Participants will learn when and how to harvest crops, along with basic techniques for safely storing produce for later use. Examples from Nicholas' garden will (hopefully) be available to demonstrate practical skills such as shucking corn, opening bean pods, and properly storing dry seeds to prevent mold. This interactive and celebratory session encourages participants to share photos of their gardens and celebrate the progress they have made throughout the course.
Nicholas Martsch holds a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has experience in plant cultivation, microbiology, and sustainable growing practices through his work with Cresco Labs and Archer Daniels Midland. His lecture series focuses on empowering young adults and teens with practical, sustainable gardening skills that promote self-sufficiency, environmental awareness, and healthy living.
